The process of transaction recovery
It is one of the most used techniques for data recovery in a DBMS. It is often referred as transaction log or journal. It consists of logs which keeps a record of all the information of the progress of transactions from the time since last consistent state. Hence, the database management knows the exact state of the database after and before each and every transaction. Whenever the database returns to a consistent state, the log truncates in order to remove all the omitted transactions. The point at which the database reaches a consistent state is referred as “check pointing” (recovery, N.D.).
The process of transaction recovery includes:-
If transaction is done before the checkpoint: nothing is done
If the transaction is done after the checkpoint: then the transaction log is used for redoing the transaction
If ROLLBACK option is available then: nothing is done
